Industrial Gearbox Repair in Texas

Solution Gear Co. is a family owned industrial gearbox repair company serving plants across Texas from one shop at 8449 West Bellfort Ave in Houston. We tear down, inspect, and rebuild industrial gearboxes stronger than OEM, cut new gears in house, and test run every unit before it ships back. Shipping is free both ways anywhere in Texas, inspection is free, local pickup is free around Houston, and every rebuild carries up to a 24 month workmanship warranty. The business has rebuilt gearboxes in Houston since 1998, first as Hanson Gear Works and today as Solution Gear Co.

The home state

The largest industrial state in America runs on gears.

Texas is where American heavy industry concentrates, and all of it turns on gearboxes. Texas refineries can process almost 6.3 million barrels of crude oil per day, roughly one third of the refining capacity in the entire country, and the state leads the nation in chemical production with more than 130,000 workers in refining and chemical products, per the Office of the Texas Governor. The two largest refineries in the United States by capacity, the Marathon Galveston Bay refinery in Texas City and the Motiva refinery in Port Arthur, both sit on the Texas Gulf Coast, per the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The scale goes far beyond fuel. Texas manufacturing produced $330.8 billion in GDP in 2024, per the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the state employs roughly 977,000 manufacturing workers, among the most of any state, per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Behind those numbers are refineries, chemical plants, container terminals, steel mills, feed mills, cement plants, and food processors, and a large share of them run drives that were installed decades ago and have little or no OEM support left.

That is the market this shop was built for. We rebuild the reducers, increasers, and gear drives that keep Texas plants running, and because the shop is in Houston, most of that industry sits within a day's drive of our floor.

Coverage map

Texas coverage, county by county.

We serve all of Texas. Free freight both ways means a plant in El Paso or Lubbock can use the shop as easily as one in Pasadena, and the markets below are where we work most. Start at a county hub for the regional picture, or go straight to your city. Every state we cover is listed on our service areas page.

What we rebuild

Rebuilt for the Texas industry mix.

The service list follows the state's industries. For refineries and chemical plants along the Gulf Coast we rebuild industrial gearboxes, cooling tower gear drives, agitator and mixer drives, and planetary gearboxes, and we handle pump rebuilds for the rotating equipment around them. A single site can hold thousands of those assets. ExxonMobil's Baytown refinery alone can process up to 584,000 barrels of crude oil per day, per ExxonMobil, and every process unit in a plant that size depends on gear drives that have to come out, get rebuilt, and go back in fast.

For the plastics side of the petrochemical business we rebuild extruder gearboxes and repair screws and barrels for polyethylene and polypropylene lines. For ports and marine terminals we regrind and rebuild crane wheels. For steel and metals work we handle roll repair, shear blade rebuilds, and pinion gears. Mining, aggregate, and cement operations send us ball mill and kiln drives, and oil field service companies send draw works and draw blocks. We also pour and machine babbitt bearings and rebuild hydraulic cylinders.

Tying it all together is in house gear cutting. When a gearbox has no OEM support left, we do not hunt for parts that no longer exist. We measure the failed components, reverse engineer them, cut new gears, and heat treat them in our own shop. That matters in Texas, where plants routinely run drives older than the people maintaining them.

Straight answers

No sales pitch, just how the work happens.

We are one shop, not a franchise network, so here is exactly how a Texas job works. You call or send a fast virtual quote request with photos and nameplate data. If the plant is in the greater Houston area, we pick the unit up for free, including crating and rigging on heavy drives. From anywhere else in Texas, you ship it and the freight is free in both directions. At the shop we tear the unit down, clean it, magnaflux the housing and gears, measure every journal and bore, and send you the real condition with a firm quote. The inspection costs nothing and you decide with the facts in hand. If you approve, we rebuild, test run, and ship the unit back with up to a 24 month workmanship warranty.

This is also not a new operation. The business has rebuilt gearboxes in Houston since 1998, operating first as Hanson Gear Works and today as Solution Gear Co., with the same in house model the whole way: the people who quote your job are the people who put it on the bench. We would rather show you a documented inspection of your own unit than a page of borrowed praise, so the proof we offer any Texas plant is simple. Ship us the gearbox. The look inside is free.

Why this shop

Why plants across Texas pick this Houston shop.

Texas has no shortage of repair shops. What it has very few of is shops that do every step in house, from teardown and magnaflux to gear cutting, heat treat, assembly, and a loaded test run, under one roof and one warranty.

In house

One roof, one accountable crew

Teardown, inspection, gear cutting, heat treat, assembly, and test run all happen at our Houston shop. No subcontractors, no split responsibility, one warranty you can hold us to.

No drawings

Reverse engineering included

OEM gone, merged, or unwilling to help? We measure your components and cut new gears to match, so orphaned drives common in older Texas plants stay in service.

Free

Both ways, statewide

Free shipping both ways anywhere in Texas, free inspection on every job, and free pickup with crating and rigging around Houston. Distance from the shop costs you nothing.

24 hour

Emergency response

Crash calls are answered around the clock, and we have had failed units rebuilt and back on site in as little as 5 days. When a line is down, days matter.

There is a cost argument too. A complete rebuild can save you up to 50 percent versus the OEM purchase price, and because we sit in southwest Houston, the densest stretch of American process industry is within a short haul of our door. Family owned for over two decades, we win Texas work by being close, fast, and accountable.

Regional knowledge

From the Ship Channel to the Panhandle.

Each Texas region breaks gearboxes in its own way. On the Houston Ship Channel, Port Houston handled a record 53.07 million tons of cargo at its public terminals in 2024, per Port Houston, and channel activity supports 1.54 million Texas jobs and nearly 20 percent of state GDP, per a Martin Associates study published by Port Houston. That means container cranes, ship loaders, and conveyor drives running around the clock in salt air.

In the Golden Triangle, ExxonMobil's Beaumont refinery passed 630,000 barrels per day of capacity after its 2023 expansion, per ExxonMobil, and Chevron Phillips Chemical and QatarEnergy built the $8.5 billion Golden Triangle Polymers plant in Orange, per Chevron Phillips Chemical. Up north, the metro area around Dallas and Fort Worth employed about 311,000 manufacturing workers as of May 2026, per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and in the Panhandle the Pantex Plant outside Amarillo employs more than 3,000 people as the region's largest employer, per Pantex.

Different regions, same physics. Worn journals, pitted teeth, failed bearings, and leaking seals look the same on our bench whether the unit came off a cracker, a crane, a beef plant, or a mill stand. Knowing the plants helps us quote honestly. Knowing the metallurgy is what gets the unit back to work.

Texas questions, answered

What Texas plants ask before they send us a unit.

Do you serve all of Texas?

Yes. Shipping is free both ways from any plant in Texas, so a gearbox from El Paso, Lubbock, or Laredo costs the same to get to us as one from Pasadena. Around greater Houston we also offer free local pickup with crating and rigging included.

Where is your Texas shop located?

The shop is at 8449 West Bellfort Ave, Houston, TX 77071, in southwest Houston. Every step of the work happens at that address: teardown, magnaflux inspection, gear cutting, heat treat, assembly, and the final test run. Nothing is subcontracted out.

Do you pick up gearboxes from plants outside Houston?

In the greater Houston area, pickup, crating, rigging, and delivery are free, even on units weighing thousands of pounds. For the rest of Texas we cover freight in both directions, and on emergency jobs we help arrange rush transport so the unit reaches our bench as fast as possible.

How fast can you handle an emergency gearbox repair in Texas?

We answer crash and emergency calls 24 hours a day, and we have rebuilt failed units and had them back on site in as little as 5 days. Call 713 270 6000 any hour, describe what failed, and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

Which Texas industries do you rebuild gearboxes for?

Refining, petrochemical, plastics extrusion, ports and marine terminals, steel, mining and aggregate, cement, food processing, agriculture, power, and oil field service. That mix is why the shop rebuilds everything from cooling tower drives and extruder gearboxes to ball mill reducers and draw works.

Can you repair a gearbox that has no OEM support left?

Yes. Many Texas plants run drives whose manufacturers are long gone. We reverse engineer the unit from the parts themselves, cut new gears in house, and rebuild to measured spec, so an orphaned gearbox is not a reason to buy a whole new drive.

How much does industrial gearbox repair cost in Texas?

Every job is quoted after a free teardown and inspection, so you never pay for a diagnosis. A complete rebuild can save you up to 50 percent versus the OEM purchase price, and the quote you approve is based on the measured condition of your own unit, not a guess.

Do Dallas, Amarillo, and other distant Texas plants really use a Houston shop?

Yes, that is exactly what free freight both ways is for. Units from Dallas typically move overnight by ground freight, and Panhandle units arrive within a day or two. Once a unit is on the bench it gets the same process and the same up to 24 month warranty as a unit from across town.
