The difference is in the metal

Worn and wiped, then poured fresh.

Drag the handle. The same bearing, scored and worn before our process, then re babbitted and machined to size after.

Worn Babbitt bearing halves removed from a gearbox before repair Freshly poured and machined Babbitt bearings ready to install Before After
Pour and machine under one roof

The pour is only half the job.

Anyone can melt metal. A bearing that lasts comes from the machining that follows the pour. We re tin and pour, then bore, scrape, blue, and set clearance in the same shop, so the bearing fits the journal it was built for.

In house

Pour and machine together

20+ years

Proven on heavy equipment

For over two decades Houston plants have trusted us to re babbitt the bearings in turbines, pumps, compressors, and large gearboxes.

To size

Exact clearance, every time

We bore and machine to the journal size, then scrape and blue for fit and set the running clearance your equipment calls for.

How a re babbitt works

Our Babbitt bearing process, step by step.

This is exactly what happens from the moment a worn bearing arrives at the shop to the day it ships back, poured, machined, and fit.

01

Inspect and measure

We measure the shell, the bore, and the journal it runs on, and we check the bond surface. The inspection is free and tells you the real condition before any work begins.

02

Melt out the old babbitt

The worn, scored, or fatigued babbitt is melted out of the shell so we start from a clean, bare housing.

03

Re tin the shell

The bare shell is cleaned and tinned. A proper tin bond is what holds the new babbitt to the steel, so this step decides whether the bearing lasts.

04

Pour new babbitt

Fresh tin or lead based babbitt is poured into the prepared shell at the right temperature, building a sound, void free lining.

05

Bore and machine to size

The poured bearing is bored and machined to the exact journal size. We can also line bore the housing so the bearing sits true to the shaft.

06

Scrape and fit

The surface is scraped and blued to the journal so the load spreads evenly across the babbitt instead of riding on a high spot.

07

Set clearance

We set the running clearance your equipment requires for its oil film, speed, and load, not a generic number.

08

Final inspection and up to a 24 month warranty

Every dimension is checked one last time before the bearing ships. The completed work carries an up to 24 month workmanship warranty.

Questions, answered

What plants ask before they ship us a bearing.

What is a Babbitt bearing and why does it need to be poured?

A Babbitt bearing is a soft white metal bearing surface, a tin or lead based alloy, poured into a shell or housing. It carries the journal of large rotating equipment such as turbines, pumps, compressors, and gearboxes. The babbitt is sacrificial and wears over time, so when the surface is scored, fatigued, or wiped, we melt out the old babbitt, re tin the shell, and pour fresh babbitt, then machine it back to the exact size.

Can you machine the poured bearing to my exact journal size and clearance?

Yes. After we pour the new babbitt we bore and machine the bearing to the exact journal size, then we scrape and blue it for fit and set the running clearance your equipment calls for. We can also line bore housings so the bearing sits true. Every job carries an up to 24 month workmanship warranty.

Do you re babbitt bearings during a gearbox or pump rebuild?

Yes. Babbitt bearings are often replaced as part of a full gearbox or pump rebuild, and we pour and machine them in house so the whole unit ships back ready to run. You can send us just the bearing or the complete machine. Shipping and inspection are free both ways.
