Refinery and petrochemical reducers
Pump, compressor, agitator, and conveyor drives rebuilt for continuous high temperature, corrosive service along the Ship Channel.
Solution Gear Co. provides industrial gearbox repair in Houston, Texas from our own shop at 8449 West Bellfort Ave, where we have been tearing down, machining, and rebuilding gear drives for Gulf Coast plants since 1998. Houston is our home city, so local pickup and delivery are free, inspection is free, and quotes usually go out the same day a unit hits our bench. Cooling tower fan drives, refinery reducers, extruder gear units, steel mill drives, marine reduction gears, and oilfield boxes all come through our doors, and every one leaves rebuilt in house, backed by up to a 24 month workmanship warranty.
Our building sits at 8449 West Bellfort Ave in southwest Houston, off IH 69 and Beltway 8, a short run from downtown, the East End, and the industrial belt that lines the Houston Ship Channel. That geography matters, because the machines we fix rarely fail at a convenient hour. Companies based in Houston operate about 15.3 percent of total U.S. oil refining capacity, and the Ship Channel is home to the largest petrochemical manufacturing complex in the United States, in a region with more than 4,200 energy related firms, per the Greater Houston Partnership.
The port side of the city works just as hard. Port Houston's public terminals handled a record 53.07 million tons of cargo and 4,139,991 TEUs of containers in 2024, per Port Houston, and a Martin Associates economic impact study cited by Port Houston credits Ship Channel activity with 1.54 million Texas jobs and $439 billion in statewide economic value. Nearly every crane, conveyor, cooling tower, mixer, and process line inside those numbers turns on a gear drive. When one starts running hot, leaking oil, or making metal, the production behind it stops, and that is the phone call we have been answering in this city for more than twenty years.
Houston's industrial base decides what lands on our bench, and most weeks it looks like this.
The full list runs longer: worm, helical, and bevel reducers, planetary units, crane wheels, and babbitt bearings among them. For step by step process detail, see our industrial gearbox repair service page.
We can usually read a failure before we open the case, but we still tear every unit down to confirm it. Four patterns dominate Gulf Coast service.
We magnaflux gears and shafts to find the cracks you cannot see, then fix the root cause instead of the symptom.
Plenty of shops will quote a Houston gearbox job and then broker the hard parts to somebody else. We do the opposite. Each unit is disassembled, sandblasted, cleaned, and magnafluxed here. When a tooth is beyond saving we cut new gears in house, heat treating, carburizing, and flame hardening them to spec. Journals are reground to size, bearings and seals are renewed, keyways are recut, and the finished unit is reassembled to tight tolerance and test run before it leaves. You get a gearbox that is ready to bolt back in, not a parts list.
The people who quote your job are the same people who put it on the bench, so nothing gets lost between the promise and the work. When the original manufacturer is gone, or a new unit is months out, we reverse engineer the gearing from the worn parts and build it anyway. The result is rebuilt stronger than OEM, often at up to half the cost of buying new, and every job carries up to a 24 month workmanship warranty.
We are not new to this city. The shop was established in 1998 and operated for years as Hanson Gear Works before taking the Solution Gear Co. name, with the same family ownership and in house capabilities behind it. The full story is on our about page.
You will not find invented testimonials here or anywhere on this site. What we offer instead is the arrangement the business was built on: we pick up your unit for free, tear it down and inspect it for free, and put a written quote in front of you before you owe us anything. The work is how we earn the relationship.
From West Bellfort, downtown Houston and the Ship Channel industrial corridor are roughly 15 to 30 minutes away, about 14 to 20 miles by US 59, I 610, and Beltway 8, so a unit that comes off the machine in the morning can be on our bench the same afternoon. Pickup, crating, rigging, and return delivery are all free in the Houston area, even on reducers that weigh thousands of pounds. If your plant sits outside the metro, we ship free both ways, so distance never adds a dollar to the work. When a line is down in the middle of the night, our 24 hour line at 832 270 2009 answers any time.

We rebuild refinery and petrochemical reducers, cooling tower fan drives, extruder gearboxes, planetary units, steel mill and rolling drives, marine reduction gears, oilfield boxes, and worm, helical, and bevel reducers. As an independent shop we service units from more than 100 manufacturers.
We are an independent, family owned gearbox repair shop established in 1998, and every step happens under our own roof. We do not farm out gear cutting, heat treat, or machining, so a Houston plant gets one shop accountable for the whole rebuild, plus free local pickup and delivery, a free inspection, and up to a 24 month workmanship warranty.
Houston anchors our Harris County service area, and the rest of the county rides the same routes: the Bayport and SH 225 plants in Pasadena, the refinery and chemical complex side of Baytown, and the Battleground district and Barbours Cut terminals at La Porte. Down the coast in Galveston County, we cover the refinery row at Texas City from this same building. For the wider map, start at our Texas service areas hub or the full service area index.
Free local pickup and delivery, free inspection, and up to a 24 month warranty on every rebuild. Tell us about your unit and we reply fast, often the same day. Email Shop@sgearbox.com or call the shop.
