Weld, heat treat, cut, machine
Rotating weld, metalize, heat treat, gear cutting, and final machining all happen under our roof. Your equipment is never handed to a third party shop between steps.
A rig down for a wiped mud pump journal or a cracked rotary table burns money by the hour. Solution Gear Co. rebuilds the rotating heart of a drilling rig in house in Houston. We rebuild mud pumps, rotary tables, fluid ends, swivels, bearing races, pinions, ring gears, and bull gears. Worn shafts and bores come back with rotating weld and metalize, then heat treat, grind, and machine to spec. Free shipping, free inspection, and an up to 24 month warranty on every job.
Drag the handle. A drilling rig bull gear, worn and chipped on the way in, then welded, heat treated, and cut back to a clean profile on the way out.
Before
After
A mud pump rebuild is not just a pump job. It is gearing, bearings, shafts, and welding. We do all of it here in Houston, so a power end does not travel between a gear house, a weld shop, and a machine shop while your rig sits idle. One shop, one schedule, one warranty.
Rotating weld, metalize, heat treat, gear cutting, and final machining all happen under our roof. Your equipment is never handed to a third party shop between steps.
For over two decades Gulf Coast drilling and oil and gas operators have trusted us to rebuild mud pumps, rotary tables, swivels, and rig drive gearing.
We build worn diameters back oversize, then grind and machine to the exact fit. When a print is gone, we reverse engineer the part so the rebuild matches the original.
Most rig jobs touch more than one trade. We tie this work together with full gearbox repair, custom gear cutting, and complete pump rebuild so the unit ships back as one finished assembly.
If it turns, carries a load, or transmits torque on a drilling rig, it lands on our floor. Here is the work we do every week.
Triplex and duplex power ends and fluid ends. We recondition crankshafts, main and rod bearings, crosshead bores, liner and piston bores, valve seats, and the drive gear set. See our full pump rebuild process.
The master bushing bore, the main and idler bearings, the table shaft, and the ring and pinion drive set, all inspected, welded where worn, and machined back to true so the table runs without backlash or wobble.
Modules, liner and piston bores, valve pots, seats, and stay rods inspected for washout and cracking. Worn bores are built up with rotating weld or metalize and machined back to size.
Swivel bearings, the wash pipe area, the gooseneck, and the load bearing surfaces rebuilt and machined so the swivel carries the string and seals against mud pressure.
Worn and spun bearing races and seats restored. We metalize or rotating weld the fit, then grind to the bearing tolerance so the new bearing seats with the right press and runs cool.
Drive pinions, ring gears, and bull gears reverse engineered and cut new, or welded and reprofiled. Pair this with our gear cutting and bearing repair for a complete drive set.
A worn shaft or journal does not have to be a new part. We build the metal back, restore the hardness, and machine to the exact fit. This is the core skill that keeps drilling iron in service.
Worn shafts, journals, and bores are turned on a roll positioner and built up evenly with submerged arc or hard surfacing weld, so the diameter comes back round and oversize, ready to grind to fit.
Bearing fits, seal surfaces, and worn diameters get a fine, bonded thermal spray coating, then a precision grind. Ideal where a weld would distort a finished part.
After welding or cutting, parts are heat treated to restore the hardness and toughness the load demands, so a rebuilt gear or shaft carries torque the way the original did.
This is exactly what happens from the moment a worn unit arrives at the shop to the day it ships back, welded, heat treated, machined, and assembled.
We tear the unit down, then measure every bore, journal, gear, and bearing fit and check for cracks and washout. The inspection is free and tells you the real condition before any work begins.
When a print or part number is long gone, we reverse engineer the gear or shaft from the worn part so the rebuild matches the original geometry exactly.
Worn shafts, journals, races, and bores are built back up with rotating weld or coated with metalize, restoring the diameter to oversize ready for finishing.
Welded and newly cut parts are heat treated to restore the hardness and toughness the drilling load requires, so the rebuild carries torque like the original.
Gears are cut, fits are ground, and bores are line bored and machined to the exact size and clearance the equipment calls for, not a generic number.
New bearings are fit to restored seats, babbitt bearings are poured where the unit uses them, and clearances are set so the assembly runs cool under load.
The mud pump, rotary table, or swivel goes back together as a complete unit, with backlash, end play, and runout checked across the assembly.
Every dimension is checked one last time before the unit ships. The completed work carries an up to 24 month workmanship warranty.
We rebuild the rotating equipment that drills the well and moves the mud, for operators and service companies across the Gulf Coast.
Mud pumps, rotary tables, swivels, and drive gearing for land rigs and offshore platforms, rebuilt to keep the string turning and the mud moving.
Production and drilling equipment for oil and gas operators across Houston, Pasadena, Lake Charles, and the Texas Gulf Coast.
Pump power ends, fluid ends, and gear sets for the service and workover companies that keep field equipment in the rotation.
Rig gearing rarely fails alone. The same job often pulls in our gearbox repair, gear cutting, and babbitt bearing services so the complete drive set ships back ready to run.
Not stock photos. This is a drilling rig bull gear we welded, heat treated, and cut in our Houston shop, the same quality that goes back into your rig.
A rebuilt mud pump end, rotary table, or gear set comes back to spec for up to 50 percent less than OEM. No drilling iron is beyond repair.
Free shipping both ways and a free inspection on every job. Free pickup and delivery includes crating and rigging for heavy items like rotary tables and power ends.
An up to 24 month workmanship warranty on the weld, the heat treat, and the machining. Built to carry the drilling load the way the original did.
Pump failed on tour? Our 24 hour emergency line answers at 832 270 2009. Rush rebuilds in days, not weeks, to get the rig back in the rotation.
We rebuild the rotating and load bearing parts of a drilling rig. That includes mud pump power ends and fluid ends, rotary tables, swivels, and the drive train gearing, meaning bull gears, ring gears, pinions, and the bearing races that carry them. We restore worn shafts, journals, and bores with rotating weld and metalize, then heat treat, grind, and machine the part back to the original specification. Everything is done in house in Houston with free shipping and an up to 24 month workmanship warranty.
Yes. We rebuild both ends of a triplex or duplex mud pump. On the power end we recondition the crankshaft, the main and connecting rod bearings, the crosshead bores, and the gear set. On the fluid end we inspect and repair the module, the liner and piston bores, the valve seats, and the stay rods. Worn bores are built up with rotating weld or metalize and machined back to size. We also rebuild the drive gearing as part of the same job so the whole pump ships back ready to run. See our full pump rebuild page for the complete process.
Rotating weld is a submerged arc or hard surfacing process run on a turning roll positioner so a worn shaft or journal is built up evenly with new metal while it spins. Metalize, or thermal spray, sprays a fine bonded coating onto a worn bearing fit or seal surface. Both rebuild a worn diameter back to oversize, then we heat treat where needed, grind, and machine to the exact fit. On drilling equipment this saves a worn rotary table shaft, mud pump crankshaft journal, or pinion bore instead of scrapping a costly part.
Yes. We serve Houston, Pasadena, Lake Charles, and the wider Texas Gulf Coast, and we ship oil field equipment in and out from drilling and oil and gas operators across the region. Shipping is free both ways, and free pickup and delivery includes the crating and rigging for heavy items such as rotary tables and mud pump power ends. The inspection is free, so you see the real condition before any work begins.
Free shipping, free inspection, and an up to 24 month warranty on every rebuild. Tell us about your mud pump, rotary table, swivel, or gear set and we will reply fast, often the same day.
