Beef and rendering plant drives
Screw and drag conveyor reducers, hide puller and rendering drives, and ammonia compressor gearboxes rebuilt for constant washdown and shock loading.
Solution Gear Co. provides industrial gearbox repair for Amarillo, Texas from our full service gear shop in Houston, and the distance costs you nothing: we ship free both ways, crate and rig the unit, inspect it free, and put a firm written quote in your hands before any work begins. Family owned since 1998, we rebuild beef plant, feed mill, oilfield, grain, and wind drives to tighter tolerances than OEM, back every rebuild with up to a 24 month workmanship warranty, and answer a 24 hour emergency line when a Panhandle line is down.
Few cities in Texas concentrate as much gear driven machinery as Amarillo. The Texas Panhandle is the largest cattle feeding region in America: members of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, which is headquartered in Amarillo, feed and market more than 6 million head of fed cattle a year, about 30 percent of the nation's fed beef, per the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. All of that beef moves through processing plants built around conveyors, augers, and reducers. Tyson's Amarillo beef plant is one of the company's largest, with slaughter capacity of roughly 5,800 to 6,000 head per day, and drew a 200 million dollar plant investment announced in 2022, per a Tyson Foods news release.
Heavy industry here goes well beyond beef. The Pantex Plant outside the city, the nation's primary nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility, employs more than 3,000 people across nearly 650 buildings on an 18,000 acre site and has become the largest employer in the Texas Panhandle, per Pantex. Bell's Amarillo Assembly Center, which marked 25 years of operations in 2024, performs final assembly of every V-22 Osprey variant plus military helicopters, per Bell. Add the grain elevators along the rail lines, the rod pumps in the surrounding fields, and the wind sites on the horizon, and Potter County produced 11.4 billion dollars in GDP in 2024, per the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Every one of those operations turns on gearboxes, and when a reducer fails in the Panhandle the nearest qualified rebuild shop has usually been a long haul away. We close that gap.
We do not guess at root cause, we read it off the parts. In beef and protein plants the most common kill on a conveyor or rendering reducer is seal failure that lets washdown water and caustic chemicals contaminate the oil. Once the lubricant is compromised the bearings spall, the gear teeth start to micropit, and the unit overheats. By the time it is noisy the damage is already in the metal, which is why we rebuild these drives with washdown duty in mind from the seals out.
Grain and feed drives fail differently. Bucket elevator head drives and pellet mill reducers run near continuous full load, so the failure is usually thermal and fatigue driven: tooth flank pitting, then a fractured tooth on the output stage, and worn output shaft journals where a bearing has been spinning on the shaft. Oilfield pumping unit gearboxes are reversing load machines, loading the teeth in alternating directions on every stroke, so we look hard for tooth bending fatigue, scored herringbone or helical teeth, and brinelled tapered roller bearings. Wind turbine drivetrains pair a planetary input stage with parallel helical stages, and the classic failures are planet bearing spalling, sun and planet tooth micropitting, and high speed shaft bearing damage. We magnaflux every gear and shaft, measure bores and journals against print, and when a shaft is worn we build it back up and grind it to size or cut a new one. That is the difference between a rebuild that lasts and a parts swap that fails again in six months.
Everything happens under our roof in Houston. Teardown, cleaning, magnaflux crack detection, in house gear cutting when a gear is beyond saving, bearing work, shaft grinding, and final assembly. Where the application calls for it we carburize or flame harden new gears for more wear life than the original. That is what we mean by stronger than OEM: we are not just replacing what broke, we are correcting the weakness that broke it. Because no step waits on an outside vendor, we control the schedule, and the rebuild ships back with an inspection report and up to a 24 month workmanship warranty.
For Amarillo plants that matters twice over. There is no comparable full service rebuild shop in the Panhandle, and a plant that sends a unit out wants certainty on both price and timeline before committing. Our free teardown inspection and firm written quote give you exactly that, before a dollar is spent.
Amarillo sits roughly 600 miles and about 9 hours by road from our dock at 8449 West Bellfort Ave in southwest Houston, so we serve the Panhandle as a freight market and we absorb the freight. We arrange pickup at your plant, crate and rig the unit, truck it to Houston, and return it the same way, all at no charge in either direction. The only line on your quote is the repair itself.
We will be straightforward about our history here: we are a Houston shop, established in 1998 and formerly known as Hanson Gear Works, and our Panhandle work arrives by truck rather than through a local storefront. What Amarillo customers get in exchange is a complete gear manufacturing and rebuild facility, free inspection, and a warranty that travels back up Highway 287 with the unit. Call 713 270 6000 to start, or 832 270 2009 any hour when a line is down.
Screw and drag conveyor reducers, hide puller and rendering drives, and ammonia compressor gearboxes rebuilt for constant washdown and shock loading.
Grain elevator and terminal head shaft reducers rebuilt with new bearings, ground shafts, and fresh seals for continuous duty in dust.
Large modulus hard tooth helical drives that run near full load all shift, rebuilt for the heat and torque they live with.
Double and triple reduction rod pump reducers rebuilt for reversing loads, with tooth and tapered roller bearing inspection on every unit. See our oil field page.
Planetary input and helical stage rebuilds, planet bearing and sun gear replacement, and high speed shaft bearing work.
Inline helical, parallel shaft, and right angle worm and bevel reducers from grain, feed, and aggregate handling lines rebuilt to print.
Yes. We repair industrial gearboxes for Amarillo and the wider Texas Panhandle as a freight shipping market. The roughly 600 miles between us, about 9 hours by road, is handled by free shipping both ways plus free crating, rigging, pickup, and delivery, so distance never shows up on your invoice.
We do, in both directions. Free shipping both ways is standard. We also crate and rig the unit and arrange pickup and delivery at no charge, so the only thing on your quote is the repair itself.
It depends on the unit and what we find at teardown, but because we do everything in house, from gear cutting to final assembly, we control the schedule. After the free inspection we give you a firm quote and a realistic timeline, and our 24 hour line at 832 270 2009 is there for emergencies.
Beef and rendering plant drives, grain and feed mill reducers, bucket elevator head drives, pellet and hammer mill gearboxes, oilfield pumping unit reducers, wind turbine drivetrains, and conveyor and material handling reducers, among others. If it turns and it failed, we have likely seen it.
Often yes. We rebuild to tighter tolerances than the original and, where the application calls for it, carburize or flame harden gears for more wear life than OEM. A complete overhaul typically costs a fraction of replacement and carries up to a 24 month workmanship warranty.
Amarillo is the seat of Potter County and our anchor city for the Texas Panhandle. It is one of the cities we cover across the state, and you can see the full list on our Texas service area hub or browse every region we serve. Plants elsewhere in Texas may also want our Dallas and North Texas gearbox repair coverage, which works on the same free freight model, or the home base Houston page, where free local pickup puts our dock 15 to 30 minutes from most of the metro's industrial corridor. The same ship in model reaches plants as far away as Cleveland, Ohio.
Free shipping both ways, free inspection, a firm written quote before any work begins, and up to a 24 month warranty on every rebuild. Tell us about your unit and we reply fast, often the same day.
