Refinery and petrochemical reducers
Pump, compressor, agitator, and conveyor drives rebuilt for continuous high temperature, corrosive service along the Ship Channel.
Houston runs on rotating equipment, and most of it has a gearbox somewhere in the drivetrain. Cooling tower fan drives, refinery pump and compressor reducers, polymer extruder gear units, steel mill rolling drives, marine reduction gears, and oilfield drilling boxes all turn under heavy, around the clock load. When one of them starts running hot, leaking oil, or making metal, the production line behind it stops. We are Solution Gear Co., a family owned Houston gear shop established in 1998, and we have spent more than two decades rebuilding exactly these units for plants up and down the Gulf Coast.
Our shop sits at 8449 West Belfort Ave in Southwest Houston, off IH 69 and Beltway 8, which puts our trucks a short run from the Houston Ship Channel corridor and the wider petrochemical belt. Because this is our home base, we offer free local pickup and delivery, and that includes the crating and rigging on the heavy units. For customers outside the metro we ship free both ways, so distance never changes the price of getting your gearbox repaired. Every job starts with a free inspection and a clear written quote before we touch a single bolt.
We do all the work in house, from gear cutting and heat treating to bearing repair and final test run. Nothing leaves the building to a third party, and nothing comes back as a guess. We rebuild each unit stronger than the original, and we back it with up to a 24 month workmanship warranty.
Houston is the largest petrochemical complex in the country. Roughly a quarter of U.S. refining capacity sits along the Houston Ship Channel, and the region carries a huge share of the nation's base petrochemical production. That concentration means a lot of gear units, and a lot of them are critical path. We work with the operators who run them every day.

After more than twenty years on the bench, we can usually read a failure before we open the case, but we still tear every unit down to confirm it. The patterns we see most in Gulf Coast service are predictable.
We magnaflux gears and shafts to find the cracks you cannot see, then fix the root cause instead of the symptom.
Every gearbox follows the same disciplined path through our shop. We disassemble the unit, sandblast and thoroughly clean every part, then magnaflux the gears and shafts to expose hidden cracking. Bearings are inspected and sized, and we cut new gears in house when a tooth is beyond saving, heat treating, carburizing, and flame hardening them to spec.
From there we pre grind and resize the shaft journals, install new bearings and seals, re cut keyways as needed, and reassemble to tight tolerance. Before anything leaves the building we test run the unit so you get a gearbox that is ready to bolt back in, not a parts list. The result is rebuilt stronger than OEM, often at up to half the cost of buying new.
Houston is home base, so the easiest part of the job for you is getting the gearbox to us. We pick it up locally for free, handle the crating and the rigging on the heavy units, and deliver the finished unit back to your plant. There is no charge for any of that, and no charge for the inspection or the quote.
If your operation sits outside the metro, in Baytown, Pasadena, Texas City, Beaumont, or anywhere on the coast, we ship free both ways. The freight is on us in both directions, which means location never adds a dollar to the work. When a line is down and you cannot wait, our 24 hour line at 832 270 2009 reaches us any time. For anything else, start at our contact page or read more about the shop on our about page.
